A training programme on Team Building had been organised for employees of Smile Foundation with a goal to increase the employee’s understanding of team dynamics and improve how the team works together. The session was conducted by Mr. Sachin Jindal, experienced in Personal Development, Behavioral & Soft Skills Training and training in performance enhancement.

“Being a fresher, this was the first time I was exposed to a formal workplace, which, indeed, was an enthralling experience. After being cognizant of the kind of the work done by MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP in general, and STeP specifically, I felt contended and relieved that, in this modern capitalistic world, there still are some people, some organization which are working for the greater good of society, and helping marginalized group of people by playing a role of catalyzed to uplift them from the abysmal condition many of them find themselves in. The wide array of work done here at MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP surprised me. Since my stint with the organization was only for a small tenure of 3 weeks, or 15 working days to be specific, I was allotted a small fraction of work, which, I tried to complete with utmost sincerity and diligence. Some of the works which I was allotted include writing case studies or success stories of candidates who were trained at different STeP centers across India mentioning about their family background, about how they were trained and bagged jobs, and how STeP played a catalyzing role in bringing a positive change in their, and their family’s life. After going through the raw data about them, I felt desolate that there are so many people in our nation who are devoid of resources, who face harsh side of life, but at the same time motivated me that no matter how big the problems are, one, if he is motivated and confident, can cross those hurdles to emerge victorious in life. Some other work which were allotted to me include speaking to ROs of different STeP centers and coordinating with them to get the raw data transferred on updated excel based questionnaire which help STeP employees track the necessary information easily. Writing in brief about various programs conducted across India was also one of the few works that were assigned to me. Now, when my stint is about to get over, I, wholeheartedly, enjoyed the work that was assigned to me and tried my best to complete the work to the best of my abilities. There are a lot of positives that I would be carrying after this internship. The always exuberant and cheerful attitude of employees motivated me to strive better and brought a Mpeg on my face. The punctuality and diligence of people here enlightened me about work culture which I wasn’t exposed to hitherto. I shall keep these points in my mind whenever and wherever I am assigned work. In the end I would like to thank my mentors Ms. Vaishali and Mr. Tony Thomas who always encouraged me and taught me how to improve whenever I made any mistake in carrying out assigned work. “Volunteering at MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP under Swabhiman, I understood that altering people’s lives is not a myth. The vision and concept of Swabhiman has had a great influence on me, improving my perspective on life. Change begins at home. ‘You educate a man, you educate an individual; you educate a woman, you educate the Nation’. Once you show them the right direction, women are willing to amend the entire community. During the capacity building sessions at Swabhiman, I grasped the significance of offering a child the choice of informed decision. After they realise what is right from wrong, they can guide their respective communities in the appropriate direction. Apart from reporting the daily proceedings, I had an excellent opportunity to observe how Swabhiman as a programme took initiative to transform itself by objective evaluation of their capabilities and future possibilities. My project responsibilities for the internship were to provide analysis of the sessions and preparing reports to be presented to the supporters of Swabhiman. I was also included in various events related to the organization. In addition, I helped to organize the training sessions on women’s issues attended by the volunteers, health educators and beneficiaries, which added yet another facet to my understanding of Swabhiman’s community relations. It has been a great way to learn more about the incredible work that MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP is doing every day. The environment that I worked in was dedicated and encouraging; I was treated as a friend and a colleague from the initial day and was wholeheartedly welcomed to the Swabhiman team..”
“As a part of my MBA course, I was required to work with an NGO, so that I get an exposure as to what and how things are done in a NGO. I choose to work for MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP. At MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP I was provided an opportunity to work with the Outreach team for Mpeg on Wheels program. During my stint at MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP, I was able to gain both theoretical and practical knowledge of what goes behind making Mpeg on wheels program a success. Initially, in order to sensitize on different kind of works done by the outreach team, I was given a task of proofreading a report that was to be submitted to the donor. This task helped me get an inside knowledge on the various activities carried on by the outreach team. After this I was asked to plan activities for a year time which included six health camps, fifteen IEC camps and fifteen special health camps. This task required me to understand the kind of programs that MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP could conduct. Further, it also required me to keep in mind the kind of people who would benefit with these programs. My responsibility was to come up with activities that would have an impact on maximum number of people in the target group. After this, I was asked to go to a Mpeg on Wheels camp to see how things are done at the ground level. I along with the Mpeg on Wheels team visited Sanjay Camp at Chanakyapuri. There I was able to gain practical knowledge as to what happens in a health camp. It was quite an eye opener for me seeing the health condition of the people living in that slum area. I got to know how SOW was making a huge impact on these people. It was surprising to see how some people are totally dependents on camps like these as they cannot afford to go to hospital. However, this program made me aware about how so many things can be done for the betterment of the society. During my internship, I also got an opportunity to work on Mpeg on Wheels Management Information System (SOW MIS). Mpeg on wheels is a PAN India program and has been trying to go online in order to manage the information and data. My responsibility was to go through the website and provide feedback to the developer about the changes and additions that were required to make the website more users friendly. Further, I was also asked to prepare a user guide for the program coordinators. I prepared a user guide with all the steps to be followed with the supporting pictures. This guide has been prepared in such a way that anyone can use the website easily with the help of the guide. Further I was also asked to feed data in the website. Data for vehicle, equipment for the different running projects has been entered in the website. This internship has taught me many things and helped me grow my personality. The things that I have learned here will of great help in my career ahead. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my mentors Mr. Ayaz and Mr. Prateek who kept me motivated and encouraged to learn more during my stay here. “I have been working for MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP in between 13th October 2013 and 9th January 2015 for a period of 12 weeks. During this period I was engaged in the work of the Mpeg Twin e-Learning Programme (STeP), Outreach, Mpeg on Wheels (SoW) and shortly Swabhiman. I enjoyed my time with Mpeg. The work everybody does here cannot be honoured high enough. The people are all very helpful – especially when the language barrier stops me of continuing my work and the coherence among the team members is impressive. After a slow start of getting to know the workflow and the programmes, I asked to be more included into the work and in response got more responsibilities in the STeP team (individually renewing the Case Study management & working on centre proposals). The longer my experience with Mpeg the more trust was put into me on working on several tasks individually – mainly in the Outreach & SoW department – which I appreciate a lot. Besides the above mentioned tasks, I went on a field appraisal on a potential new centre in South Delhi and wrote due diligence documents to present prospective centres to the donor for STeP. My engagement for Outreach & SoW covered research on current health issues in the respective areas of intervention, writing, compiling and checking monthly, quarterly, annual and completion reports for different projects, wrote Case Studies and worked on the establishment of Performance Indicators for 2015 (SoW). For Swabhiman, I wrote and checked project completion report and wrote several case studies for the annual case study book published by Swabhiman department. Looking back on my time here, I am proud on my contribution and the trust and alongside this, the responsibilities I gained. I gained insight into the everyday work of managing, monitoring and evaluating the programmes as well as the interaction among employees within the head office in Delhi. It was very important to stay with Mpeg for a longer period (> 4 weeks) to efficiently use my gained knowledge and skills. More than ever, I am included into ongoing work because I understand the process, the way Mpeg is doing the work and which data/information I miss to complete given tasks in time. “Innocent giggles with beaming eyes, is what I noticed when I entered the Mission Education centre (Anandadhara), home to 550 students in the district of Noapara.
They are children of minor farmers and daily wagers who have migrated from nearby regions in search of livelihood.
Doctor, Teacher, Pilot, Astronaut.., the list was endless when I asked them about their ambitions. With tiny and neat classrooms, it was great to see the children eating nutritious food during their recess. It’s enthralling to experience how they open up so soon, and make you a part of their family in almost no time. In 2002 MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP was set up to work with grassroots initiatives for effecting positive changes in the lives of underprivileged children. My project responsibility of the internship was mainly concerned with the report making for the donors. The internship gave me a wonderful exposure as to how an NGO works and how various projects are implemented and how they are monitored. While working with STeP I was able to learn many things like how to make case studies, donor reports, data Sheets etc. Also I was able to take personality development classes at various centers where STeP training program was offered and was able to interact with the students at the centre. “Being a fresher, this was the first time I was exposed to a formal workplace, which, indeed, was an enthralling experience. After being cognizant of the kind of the work done by MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP in general, and STeP specifically, I felt contended and relieved that, in this modern capitalistic world, there still are some people, some organization which are working for the greater good of society, and helping marginalized group of people by playing a role of catalyzed to uplift them from the abysmal condition many of them find themselves in. The wide array of work done here at MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP surprised me. Since my stint with the organization was only for a small tenure of 3 weeks, or 15 working days to be specific, I was allotted a small fraction of work, which, I tried to complete with utmost sincerity and diligence. Some of the works which I was allotted include writing case studies or success stories of candidates who were trained at different STeP centers across India mentioning about their family background, about how they were trained and bagged jobs, and how STeP played a catalyzing role in bringing a positive change in their, and their family’s life. After going through the raw data about them, I felt desolate that there are so many people in our nation who are devoid of resources, who face harsh side of life, but at the same time motivated me that no matter how big the problems are, one, if he is motivated and confident, can cross those hurdles to emerge victorious in life. Some other work which were allotted to me include speaking to ROs of different STeP centers and coordinating with them to get the raw data transferred on updated excel based questionnaire which help STeP employees track the necessary information easily. Writing in brief about various programs conducted across India was also one of the few works that were assigned to me. Now, when my stint is about to get over, I, wholeheartedly, enjoyed the work that was assigned to me and tried my best to complete the work to the best of my abilities. There are a lot of positives that I would be carrying after this internship. The always exuberant and cheerful attitude of employees motivated me to strive better and brought a Mpeg on my face. The punctuality and diligence of people here enlightened me about work culture which I wasn’t exposed to hitherto. I shall keep these points in my mind whenever and wherever I am assigned work. “Volunteering at MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP under Swabhiman, I understood that altering people’s lives is not a myth. The vision and concept of Swabhiman has had a great influence on me, improving my perspective on life. Change begins at home. ‘You educate a man, you educate an individual; you educate a woman, you educate the Nation’. Once you show them the right direction, women are willing to amend the entire community. During the capacity building sessions at Swabhiman, I grasped the significance of offering a child the choice of informed decision. After they realise what is right from wrong, they can guide their respective communities in the appropriate direction. Apart from reporting the daily proceedings, I had an excellent opportunity to observe how Swabhiman as a programme took initiative to transform itself by objective evaluation of their capabilities and future possibilities. My project responsibilities for the internship were to provide analysis of the sessions and preparing reports to be presented to the supporters of Swabhiman. I was also included in various events related to the organization. In addition, I helped to organize the training sessions on women’s issues attended by the volunteers, health educators and beneficiaries, which added yet another facet to my understanding of Swabhiman’s community relations. “As a part of my MBA course, I was required to work with an NGO, so that I get an exposure as to what and how things are done in a NGO. I choose to work for MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP. At MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP I was provided an opportunity to work with the Outreach team for MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP on Wheels program. During my stint at MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP, I was able to gain both theoretical and practical knowledge of what goes behind making MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP on wheels program a success. Initially, in order to sensitize on different kind of works done by the outreach team, I was given a task of proofreading a report that was to be submitted to the donor. This task helped me get an inside knowledge on the various activities carried on by the outreach team. After this I was asked to plan activities for a year time which included six health camps, fifteen IEC camps and fifteen special health camps. This task required me to understand the kind of programs that MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP could conduct. Further, it also required me to keep in mind the kind of people who would benefit with these programs. My responsibility was to come up with activities that would have an impact on maximum number of people in the target group. After this, I was asked to go to a MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP on Wheels camp to see how things are done at the ground level. I along with the Mpeg on Wheels team visited Sanjay Camp at Chanakyapuri. There I was able to gain practical knowledge as to what happens in a health camp. It was quite an eye opener for me seeing the health condition of the people living in that slum area. I got to know how SOW was making a huge impact on these people. It was surprising to see how some people are totally dependents on camps like these as they cannot afford to go to hospital. However, this program made me aware about how so many things can be done for the betterment of the society. During my internship, I also got an opportunity to work on MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP on Wheels Management Information System (SOW MIS). MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP on wheels is a PAN India program and has been trying to go online in order to manage the information and data. My responsibility was to go through the website and provide feedback to the developer about the changes and additions that were required to make the website more users friendly. Further, I was also asked to prepare a user guide for the program coordinators. I prepared a user guide with all the steps to be followed with the supporting pictures. This guide has been prepared in such a way that anyone can use the website easily with the help of the guide. Further I was also asked to feed data in the website. Data for vehicle, equipment for the different running projects has been entered in the website. This internship has taught me many things and helped me grow my personality. The things that I have learned here will of great help in my career ahead. During this period I was engaged in the work of the MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP Twin e-Learning Programme (STeP), Outreach, MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP on Wheels (SoW) and shortly Swabhiman. I enjoyed my time with MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP. The work everybody does here cannot be honoured high enough. The people are all very helpful – especially when the language barrier stops me of continuing my work and the coherence among the team members is impressive. After a slow start of getting to know the workflow and the programmes, I asked to be more included into the work and in response got more responsibilities in the STeP team (individually renewing the Case Study management & working on centre proposals). The longer my experience with MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP the more trust was put into me on working on several tasks individually – mainly in the Outreach & SoW department – which I appreciate a lot. Besides the above mentioned tasks, I went on a field appraisal on a potential new centre in South Delhi and wrote due diligence documents to present prospective centres to the donor for STeP. My engagement for Outreach & SoW covered research on current health issues in the respective areas of intervention, writing, compiling and checking monthly, quarterly, annual and completion reports for different projects, wrote Case Studies and worked on the establishment of Performance Indicators for 2015 (SoW). For Swabhiman, I wrote and checked project completion report and wrote several case studies for the annual case study book published by Swabhiman department. Looking back on my time here, I am proud on my contribution and the trust and alongside this, the responsibilities I gained. Last year, Divya was awarded with a merit-based scholarship under MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP Swabhiman programme to help her complete her schooling and higher studies. She belongs to a family who work hard yet struggle to make ends meet. Divya’s mother Kiran works as a maid washing dishes, cleaning and mopping 5-6 houses every day. In the evening she packs plastic balls meant to be played with by little children and sells them at traffic signals.
Even though she is illiterate herself, Kiran ensured that her three daughters went to school. It is a fruit of her efforts that her eldest daughter Divya has always been a class topper. Whether it is the burning sun, heavy rains or biting cold, both parents never take a single day off just so that their daughters can have an easier life and do not have to struggle daily like them.
I was sick for the longest time and had lost all hope of giving birth
Due to her husband’s repeated demands and the constant pressures from her family for a child, Deepshika had conceived four timers in two years but was unable to give birth due to her failing health. The family did not seek any good medical help and she kept on suffering. Deepshika had lost all hope when volunteers from Swabhiman came to know of her condition.
They immediately sought medical advice for her and repeatedly counseled her husband, making him realize his responsibility towards her well being. Deepshika began paying attention to herself, taking a healthy diet, and in no time started blossoming again, with her husband by her side.
She is six months pregnant now and ready to experience a happy motherhood.
Presently, Radhika is aiming to get admission to a reputed college in Delhi University and study child psychology. She regularly visits the Mission Education centre where her journey started and spends a lot of time with the younger children there – helping them, playing with them, teaching them.
My father does not understand English but he loves to hear me use it.
A temporary driver struggling for the survival of his family of six, Radhika’s father never thought of enrolling her in school. But only one meeting with Mission Education project coordinators was enough to convince him that education could be his daughter’s way out from the life of poverty and drudgery.
Radhika studied at the Mission Education centre for 10 years and because of her hard work and diligence was successfully mainstreamed to a prestigious private school in Delhi. She was also awarded a scholarship under MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP Swabhiman programme to complete her education free of cost.
Presently, Radhika is aiming to get admission to a reputed college in Delhi University and study child psychology. She regularly visits the Mission Education centre where her journey started and spends a lot of time with the younger children there – helping them, playing with them, teaching them.
My mother wants me to have a job. She always wanted to work but she never could. I am going to make her proud.
15-year-old Pooja is probably not the only girl who wants to fulfill her mother’s dreams. Her mother Mussarat has always been encouraging her to focus on education. She could never work because she had to be busy with household chores before and after marriage. She has till date never sought any help in household chores from her daughter.
As a result, Pooja performed outstandingly. She has excelled ion studies and is equally good in co-curricular and got scholarship under Swabhiman programme. She wants to become a teacher when she grows up and encourage other under privileged girls like her to chase their dreams.

Aastha’s mother does labour work at construction sites with her husband. She works just as hard, but gets paid only half of what her husband earns. It was with these meager wages that she started sending her daughter to school, even though her husband was completely against the idea.
From the very beginning, Aastha made her mother proud as she excelled in school, always coming first in class. When she secured 84% in her class 12th exams, even her father could not hide his happiness. At present, Aastha is studying Hindi Literature at Delhi University, and hopes to become a professor soon. Aastha received a scholarship under the Swabhiman programme which is a result of her hard work and she is one of the 92 exceptionally talented girls who are getting scholarship under MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP Swabhiman programme.
Aastha wants to take her mother on a vacation when she gets a job because without her support she could not have grown up as a strong individual like she is now.
I don’t feel I am any less than others and the Swabhiman scholarship has not only empowered me but has also given me more courage.
Convinced by a team of volunteers from Swabhiman programme to send her to a school Riddhi’s parents are now extremely proud of their daughter’s achievements. Her physical constrains have never deterred her from performing outstandingly well in academics. Hailing from a family of seven members, her parents never wanted to invest in educating her because of the financial difficulties at home, but her strong determination and the support of the Swabhiman scholarship changed the entire story. She says that History is her favorite subject and she wants to become a teacher of the subject when she finishes her studies.
I was made aware that taking care of my three children was more important than conceiving repeatedly. I am glad I was made aware.
Monali, is a 26 year old resident of Mahatma Gandhi Camp. She has 3 children, two boys aged 8 and 7 years and a girl aged 3 year. A few months ago she was totally unaware about the importance of family planning, child spacing and immunization. Monali was approached by one of the CHEs from Swabhiman. After continuous counseling and follow ups for over 4 months, Shahin understood the significance of family planning, child spacing and immunization. The guidance by CHE about the whole process of permanent contraception for women i.e., tubectomy eventually convinced Monali to opt for the same. She recently got tubectomy done and is happy that she could take necessary precautions and proper care of her health.
I will work as hard as my parents do now so that they can rest when I get a job.
Aaradhna’s mother is her greatest pillar of support. When her father lost his job four years ago Aaradhna’s mother started to work as a maid. She began to support the entire family and also supported Aaradhna’s education, not even allowing her do the household work.
As a result Aaradhna began to excel in her studies and was awarded the Swabhiman scholarship. She is one of the 92 exceptionally talented girls who were awarded scholarship last year to complete their higher education under MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP’s Swabhiman programme. Uma dreams of completing her studies and securing a good job so that she can support her parents and make them happier.
She has truly been a mother to me, and also a guardian for my child. When he was born healthy and fit, didi too had tears in her eyes.
Both Garima and her husband are uneducated and neither are they aware about the need of healthy and nutritious food for an expecting mother. A few months after Garima conceived she became pale and sick. Her husband could not take proper care of her as he was a daily wage earner, losing a day’s wage meant no food for them.
Garima’s condition improved when Aruna has been working as a health volunteer under MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP’s Swabhiman programme came to her rescue. She counselled both Garima and her husband regularly and made them aware of how nutritious food could be eaten even if they had less money. Garima, under Aruna’s strict supervision gave birth to a healthy baby boy recently.
The scholarship is a hope for me & my family because this is the only support by which I can complete my studies.
Ketaki’s father irons clothes for a living. With his small earning he can only manage to provide the minimum requirement for living and hence it was not possible for him to support Ketaki’s higher education. But it was because of the scholarship provided under Swabhiman programme that Ketaki is finally able to realise her dream of pursuing her higher studies. As Ketaki states, “The scholarship is a hope for me & my family because this is the only support by which I can complete my studies.”
Swabhiman scholarship has enabled Ketaki and her mother to dream big like 81 other young, spirited and extremely talented girls from slum clusters around Delhi have been awarded merit-based scholarship to complete their schooling and higher studies under MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP’s Swabhiman programme.

Supriya’s mother has been her strongest pillar in her journey. Her father did not support her getting an education past eighth standard. Her mother convinced her father to allow her to go for higher studies. Born and bought up in a slum in Delhi sending a girl to school was not exactly a piece of cake but Supriya and her mother were ready to face the hurdles together.
From being a little child dreaming of going to school to becoming a strong and courageous girl Supriya has come a long way struggling to be successful. MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP Swabhiman scholarship allowed Supriya to be more fearless towards financial issues hampering her studies. Supriya is currently studying in Class 10 and aspires to study more to fulfil all her mother’s dreams. Her parents are very proud of her and encourage her more every day.
The only hope of his ailing parents Maneesh had no option but to drop out from school because his sick father could not afford it anymore. His hopes were crushed but what could he do than take care of his parents.
Maneesh was the only son of his ailing parents and after his father’s savings got over the family had to struggle a lot to make both ends meet. Eventually Maneesh had to drop out of school and search for a job. But soon he realized that taking up a job was not very easy, first of all people now-a –days demanded a lot of skills that Maneesh did not possess. Things were getting difficult for him until he heard about MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP Twin e- Learning Program. Maneesh immediately enrolled himself and began to learn computer skills, spoken English, basic Marketing and soft skills and passed the course completion test with flying colors after 6 months. He now works as a computer operator at a printing press where he is well paid and respected. He is now able to bring home a decent salary but also smile and hope to his parents.

Maya Singh is a hard working and courageous girl who wanted to get a job so that the burden on her parents could be lessened. Her father worked as cloth cutter at a tailor’s and her mother joins her father whenever she can spare time. Both parents made sure that Maya Singh and her younger brother and sister went to school instead of working like other children of the community. After completing her 12th standard examination she wanted to work but got rejected at all the interviews as she lacked soft and language skills. Still she was encouraged by her parents and then she joined Smile Twin e- Learning Program JSS at Dharavi, Mumbai. The course at the program covered English Communication, Retail Management, Basic Management, Computer Proficiency and Personality development. At the end of six months she cleared the course completion test and had more work options now as she could choose between places to work as she had cleared interviews at 2-3 places. Currently she holds a good job and earns enough to support her family comfortably. Both her parents are proud of her and she is also happy as she is now able to fulfill the dreams of her parents.
Our daughter is our strength and hope. She is the youngest in the family, but she motivates everyone”- Shashi’s mother. She can say this because Shashi has emerged a fighter in the midst of a lot of problems. Her mother is proud of her and so are her other family members.
Shashi had to drop out of school because her poor father was unable to repay a debt he had taken at the time of his eldest daughter’s marriage. Shashi had just completed her standard 10th examination and her father could not support her education with an income of just rupees 3000. Shashi was a bright student but she also understood her father’s problems. Even though she had to discontinue her schooling Shashi found a way out to do something and enrolled herself in the STeP program at the nearest centre and got herself trained in soft skills and English communication, personality development etc. within six months Shashi was ready to take up jobs and she got placed as a private tutor in a coaching institute. Neha Devi is a hard working and courageous girl who wanted to get a job so that the burden on her parents could be lessened. Her father worked as cloth cutter at a tailor’s and her mother joins her father whenever she can spare time. Both parents made sure that Neha Devi and her younger brother and sister went to school instead of working like other children of the community. After completing her 12th standard examination she wanted to work but got rejected at all the interviews as she lacked soft and language skills. Still she was encouraged by her parents and then she joined MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP Twin e- Learning Program JSS at Dharavi, Mumbai. The course at the program covered English Communication, Retail Management, Basic Management, Computer Proficiency and Personality development. At the end of six months she cleared the course completion test and had more work options now as she could choose between places to work as she had cleared interviews at 2-3 places. His dream is to take his mother to Hajj and gift his mother a house of her own. This is now not a distant dream for Puneet who recently got employed at the Burger King and is now earning to support his family. Born into a family of 9, which included his 3 brothers and 3 sisters, Puneet did not always get the best of things because the sole support of the family his father passed away when he was just 12. But his determined mother did not let Puneet earn and made him study. Puneet joined the STeP course provided by MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP and built his personality and technical skills the result of which made him confident. The stories of struggle start almost the same way but not all stories end the same way. Radha’s is a story different from most stories of struggle.
Radha was in the 10th standard when her mother expired, her father re-married and she had to drop out of school. Her father is proud of her that she earns more than him and is also getting her younger siblings educated on her own. Both Radha and her siblings have a bright future before them which will be a result of all the hard work they are putting now.

Phook Kumari lives with her two sons in Mithaj village, Madhepura, Bihar. Her husband migrated to Kerala in search of work six years ago and sends whatever little he earns home every month.
Phool Kumari works as a daily wager in nearby fields. After some time Phool Kumari started suffering from severe pain in her breast. At first she ignored it. Going to the hospital would cost money and loss of a day’s wages.
The temporary relief provided by pain killers helped her carry on, but her ailment became worse, inching towards a point of no return. Abhishek’s mother left her new-born boy by a street probably because she was afraid to face the society. The baby was lying on road crying. Hundreds of people noticed the crying baby, but it was Salma a eunuch picked the baby and took him to her small house in Khapri, Mumbai. Salma named the little boy Abhishek and started raising him as a son. Abhishek became the world for Salma. Days were passing and Abhishek was growing. She wanted to bring all the happiness in his life. She wanted to send Abhishek to school.
But her poor financial condition was a problem and kept worring her. Dimple’s mother keeps very unwell, leaving her husband alone to win bread for the family. Dimple’s father works in a medical shop, earning only Rs 3500/- per month. More than half of the amount is drained out in the medical treatment of Dimple’s mother. And with what remains month’s proceedings become difficult, leaving the family in hand to mouth condition. In this situation educational expenditure of two children was a burden.
Dimple was made to stop going to school immediately after she successfully passed the 2nd grade. Her parents took educating the son as priority. And Dimple was asked to do the household chores to support her ailing mother. Hurt with this Dimple tried reasoning with her father. But Dimple’s wish was not considered.
But Dimple did not give up. She picked up books from her friends. Along with carrying out domestic work Dimple started studying at home.
Her determination was spotted by MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP. They counseled her parents on the importance of education for girl child also. The councilors advised her parents to enroll Dimple in the Mission Education centre run by Lepakshi Educational Society in the area which they did.

His father was counseled and he was enrolled in the Mission Education centre Samarpan along with both of his brothers. Harish does not have to cook food everyday now as the centre provides breakfast and lunch to them and so that Harish can go home and study the centre also packs dinner for his family and sends it with him. Now studying in class 7, Harish is a promising kid. He works hard and is determined to become a Police Officer someday.
His early job was picking up rags and doing odd jobs. Earning two square meals a day was his only goal. His parents had big dreams for him, but poverty stopped them from dreaming any bigger.
Govind is 12 years old and lives in Hafijnagar, Bamunimaidan in Guwahati, Assam. His father is a daily wage earner. Rajesh studies in class 3 in the MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP’s Mission Education centre in Gurgaon. Her father abandoned her mother, her and his son two years ago and to earn to eat she was sent to work as a domestic help in a house while her mother worked in a factory.
Upon much convincing by the teachers of the Mission Education program her brother was sent to school but not her. It took another round of counseling g for her mother to finally agree to send Rajesh to school. She now attends school every day and enjoys learning and playing in school.
There were days when we could not eat at all. We used to struggle every day.

He is a bright student and her favorite subject is drawing. Both his mother and he are happy that he is going to school and enjoying it there.

Earlier Satyam, his two brothers Som and Shubh and his grandparents, who these three children stay with, lead a life of despair and poverty. Her mother and father worked in Delhi and used to send some money every month. She usually used to take care of the household chores and her brothers. Seeing all her friends go to school and talk about it she also longed to go to school someday.
It was through her friends that Mission Education Program of MAHARISHI PATANJALI EDUCATION GROUP came to know about Satyam and her brothers. The story of Shloka is a sad one. Her father met with an accident some years back and is totally bed ridden and her mother works in the nearby households to earn money but whatever she earns half of it is spent on the medicines her father needs.

Story of the Day
“I had big dreams when I was younger. But growing up taught me the harshest reality – no one wants a 21-year-old fisherman’s daughter to break from family profession and stand on her own feet. Growing up also taught me why it was necessary to do exactly that.
With an average income of Rs. 9000 a month, my parents struggled to support three young daughters. They would always sacrifice their own needs just to bring a smile on our faces. It was a happy time, but there always existed a grim reality check. I knew I needed to become independent soon, otherwise my family would not be able to bear the burden of feeding five members. There was just so much I could do in a small town of Tiharia, in Sonarpur Zone, and that would frustrate me whenever I felt helpless.
Going to college was tougher because I was trying to make my way through people who were much more educated than I was. This would often challenge my very confidence, that had pushed me to break all barriers in the first place.
Finally, in the last year of my Bachelors’ degree, the pandemic needed more health worker hands on deck to support daily needs of patients. It was a dire situation, but it was also a window of opportunity for people like me who were waiting eagerly to contribute to the system and make a living.
Without wasting time, I joined the STeP training program to develop necessary skills required to become a nurse. As soon as my 3-month course ended, I got placed in a Maternity & Nursing Home near Sonarpur. Completing 8 hours of morning as well as evening shifts, I work hard every day to ensure my job role becomes permanent in the next 6 months. I can’t wait to see the smile on my parents face when I proudly place the same amount of money they brought home when I was a little girl. For me, their duty to support the household will end the same day when I’m able to become independent.”
